Canadian romance novelist Carley Fortune has revealed that her upcoming sixth book, “Only in Summer,” is set to hit shelves on May 18, 2027. The novel will transport readers back to Barry’s Bay, Ont., a familiar setting from Fortune’s previous works, “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer.”
Fortune shared in a recent newsletter that she purchased her own lakeside cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since selling her family home in the area. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, mirrors this dream as she aims to acquire property in Barry’s Bay. However, Ellie’s plans are disrupted when a neighboring house is torn down to make way for a grand mansion, sparking potential romantic tension in the lakeside backdrop.
A Toronto-based writer and former editor for publications like Refinery29 and The Globe and Mail, Fortune has a track record of successful novels including “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” Notably, “Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh.
Fortune’s literary success has also extended to screen adaptations, with “Every Summer After” inspiring the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” now renewed for a second season based on “One Golden Summer.” Additionally, Netflix Canada is currently in the process of adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series.
The announcement of “Only in Summer” has generated excitement among fans eager to delve into Fortune’s latest romantic narrative, set against the picturesque backdrop of Barry’s Bay.
