The Canadian-produced hockey drama series, “Heated Rivalry,” is intensifying its star-studded lineup for the upcoming second season. Following the successful debut of the show’s first season with six episodes, which gained global popularity after being acquired by HBO in the U.S. and internationally, the lead actors – Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, and François Arnaud – saw a significant career boost.
The latest additions to the cast for the second season were unveiled recently and include renowned figures such as Milla Jovovich from the “Resident Evil” franchise, Kevin Zegers known for his roles in “Gossip Girl” and “Transamerica,” and Paul Gross, a prominent figure in Canadian film and television.
The series, inspired by Nova Scotia author Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” books, revolves around the clandestine love affair between two competitive hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Paul Gross will portray the character of hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell, Kevin Zegers will play Coach Wiebe, and Milla Jovovich will take on the role of Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist supporting Rozanov.
Additionally, Season 1 actors like Robbie G.K., Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh are set to reprise their roles. The second season will feature a diverse Canadian cast, including Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire, and Priyanka.
The creator and director of the series, Jacob Tierney, expressed excitement as shooting for the second season commenced on August 17. Fans can anticipate the premiere of “Heated Rivalry” Season 2 on Crave in Spring 2027. Despite its widespread acclaim, the series is not eligible for this year’s Primetime Emmys, but it has triumphed at the Canadian Screen Awards, winning multiple accolades, including Best Drama and Best Lead Performer for Hudson Williams.
