In southern Lebanon, Israeli attacks resulted in the deaths of a minimum of 11 individuals over the recent weekend, as reported by the country’s health ministry. This incident marked the most lethal assault since a fragile truce was established in June to cease hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, despite ongoing attacks.
Residents and emergency responders in the area have accused Israeli military forces of purposefully igniting wildfires that have ravaged homes, forests, and olive groves in the conflict-ridden region. The situation has instilled concern among locals regarding their ability to remain in the area and the prospects for the hundreds of thousands who have been displaced by the conflict to eventually return.
Will Christou, a journalist with The Guardian stationed in Beirut, has been covering the wildfires and the broader Israeli military activities in southern Lebanon.
Please note the correction: In an earlier version of this report, it was erroneously stated that a memorandum of understanding was signed in June 2026 involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. In reality, Israel was not a signatory to that agreement. This error has been rectified.
