The Canadian beach volleyball pair consisting of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament held on home turf. They managed to secure victory over Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann in a hard-fought match with sets of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16.
Wilkerson was the standout performer with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a crucial serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points. The game had to be paused due to adverse weather conditions but resumed later.
Earlier in the day, the Canadian duo faced a setback in the semifinals, losing to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta. Despite the defeat, they bounced back to compete for the bronze against the same German opponents.
Notably, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson had previously won the Montreal titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver medal achieved in between at the Paris Games.
In a separate event, Canadian men Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a remarkable comeback to claim victory in the men’s bronze-medal match against Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen. After dropping the first set, they rallied to win the next two sets and secure their first podium finish together on home soil.
The Canadian pair had earlier surprised many by defeating the top-ranked team to reach the men’s semifinals but narrowly missed out on advancing further. Despite the semifinal defeat, their bronze medal win was a significant achievement.
