An Israeli military airstrike in the central Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, according to health officials. The strike, which occurred near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, claimed the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, 3, and Hussam Nusair, along with causing injuries to several others.
The Israeli military reported that the airstrike targeted and eliminated a Hamas militant identified as Nusair, who was allegedly involved in attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. Hamas has not yet responded to the military’s claims.
While a U.S.-backed ceasefire last October brought an end to major hostilities in the region, it did not prevent Israeli military actions aimed at thwarting attacks by Hamas and other Gaza militants. Hamas has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire and hindering efforts to implement a larger peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which includes Israeli withdrawals and disarmament of Hamas.
According to health officials in Gaza, over 1,300 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza since the ceasefire was established last October, while the Israeli military reports the deaths of four Israeli soldiers during the same period.
