Alberta’s police watchdog has reported the arrest of an RCMP officer who is now facing four charges related to alleged intimate partner violence. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) disclosed that they initiated an investigation into the matter at the beginning of July. The officer, stationed in central Alberta, was apprehended and charged on Tuesday.
The charges against the officer include assault, uttering threats, unlawful confinement, and intimidation, as confirmed by ASIRT. In an unusual move, ASIRT opted not to reveal the officer’s identity to safeguard the victim’s anonymity.
Following the arrest, the officer was released on an undertaking and is set to make a court appearance next month.
