A British tourist was viciously attacked and stabbed outside a beach club on a popular party island.
Louis Johe Jarvie sustained a knife wound to his arm during the incident in Cherng Talay, Phuket, in the early morning hours. The 34-year-old victim was promptly taken to Thalang hospital for treatment and is currently in the process of recuperation.
According to police reports, witnesses observed a large foreign individual stabbing the British man in the arm. The victim is said to be in improving condition but is not yet able to provide a statement. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area in an effort to identify the perpetrator.
Law enforcement officials are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Phuket, a destination that attracts millions of visitors annually, was recently highlighted in a study revealing a ratio of 118 tourists to every local resident.
In a separate tragic incident last weekend, a 37-year-old British father tragically drowned while swimming with his partner at a crowded beach on the island. Jason Mark Lambert, hailing from Ipswich, was swept away by a strong wave at Freedom Beach. Despite efforts by fellow beachgoers to rescue him, Lambert could not be revived. Two other swimmers caught in the same current were rescued successfully.
Witness Chariya Thaweerat Howells, 31, recounted how beach visitors initially assisted two struggling swimmers before realizing a third person was in distress in the water. A local resident launched a kayak to rescue the two tourists while Lambert was eventually brought ashore with no signs of life.
