A collision involving two trams occurred in Krakow, Poland, a popular destination for British tourists, resulting in 35 individuals sustaining injuries, including a child. The incident took place at a roundabout in the city at 6 pm on Wednesday when one tram crashed into a stationary tram. As a result, 33 people suffered minor injuries, while two individuals, a passenger and the tram driver, were severely harmed.
According to a statement from police spokeswoman Anna Zbroja-Zagórska, the two seriously injured individuals, including the driver who is in critical condition, are currently receiving medical attention. She emphasized the ongoing investigation to gather evidence for reconstructing the accident sequence and highlighted that it is premature to draw definitive conclusions at this juncture.
Following the incident, emergency services swiftly initiated a large-scale rescue operation, deploying seven medical teams and 40 firefighters to the scene. Firefighters utilized hydraulic tools to extricate the trapped tram driver.
This tram collision in Krakow follows a series of railway accidents in central Europe. Notably, a train crash in the southern Czech Republic on November 20 left 57 individuals injured, two of whom were in serious condition. In Slovakia, on November 9, 13 people were hospitalized after two trains collided near Bratislava, while another collision in eastern Slovakia on October 13 resulted in numerous passenger injuries.
