Terrifying video footage depicts a Manhattan building ablaze, with thick smoke emanating from the structure. The New York City Fire Department promptly responded to the incident at 201 West 107th Street in Manhattan, initially classified as a 3-alarm fire at 8:49 am. Shortly after, it was upgraded to a four-alarm fire.
By 10:30 am, the FDNY declared the fire under control, with fire marshals investigating the cause. Acting Chief EMS Paul Miano confirmed that all three reported injuries were minor. When asked about the fire’s cause, FDNY Chief of Operations Kevin Woods stated they had not determined it yet.
Acknowledging the swift response, Miano commended the fire department and EMS for their dedication. Woods reported that emergency services reached the scene within three minutes of the 8:20 am fire report. Among the injuries, one firefighter sustained minor burns.
The building, a six-story non-fireproof structure with four units per floor, suffered significant damage. Council member Shaun Abreu, representing various Manhattan areas, offered assistance to those affected by the fire.
Residents were advised to steer clear of the area due to potential smoke and traffic disruptions, as per NYC Notify, the official emergency notification system. The alert cautioned people about the ongoing fire at West 107th St & Amsterdam Ave, emphasizing safety precautions.
