The UK is facing a warning from the Met Office about impending strong winds. Coastal areas are at risk of large waves and potential power outages, as a yellow warning is in effect from noon to 7pm today.

Northern Ireland, specifically County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Fermanagh, County Londonderry, and County Tyrone, are the six areas under the warning. The forecast predicts strong and gusty winds that could disrupt transportation and infrastructure. Drivers are advised to anticipate delays on roads, railways, and ferries.

The winds, expected to reach 45-55 mph with gusts up to 60 mph in some coastal areas, will move from southwest to northeast across Northern Ireland. Persistent rain will also contribute to challenging travel conditions.

Residents near the coast are urged to exercise caution due to the risk of large waves. Even onshore, powerful waves can pose dangers, potentially sweeping individuals into the sea. It is recommended to stay away from cliffs, secure pets on a leash, and call 999 for Coastguard assistance in emergencies.

As of now, no additional warnings have been issued by the Met Office for the rest of the UK. Stay updated on the latest news by subscribing to email alerts for top stories of the day.
