A courageous father was captured on camera bravely confronting a gunman during a violent incident at a Jewish gathering in Bondi Beach, Sydney.
Ahmed al Ahmed, a heroic bystander aged 43, was filmed in the act of wrestling a gun away from one of the assailants. The dramatic scene unfolded as individuals were observing Hanukkah festivities, with reports indicating that two gunmen emerged from a vehicle and began shooting into the crowd.
In a widely circulated video on social media, one of the suspected shooters is seen firing shots before Ahmed, strategically using parked cars for cover, swiftly approaches and tackles the gunman. Despite the danger, he successfully disarms the attacker and turns the weapon against them.
Ahmed, who was dressed in jeans and a white T-shirt, is shown placing the firearm near a tree as the assailant retreats. Subsequently, another shooter is observed firing from a nearby bridge. Ahmed’s family confirmed that he was hospitalized for surgery after sustaining two gunshot wounds.
A relative informed 7News that Ahmed was undergoing treatment in the hospital, expressing hope for his recovery and praising his heroic actions. Meanwhile, a senior law enforcement official revealed that one of the gunmen at Bondi Beach was identified as Naveed Akram from Bonnyrigg in Sydney’s south-west. Akram is reported to be in police custody, with authorities currently conducting a search at his residence.
The identity of the second gunman remains unknown. NSW Premier Chris Minns commended Ahmed during a press briefing, lauding him as a true hero for his selfless act of bravery. Minns described the footage as an extraordinary scene, highlighting Ahmed’s courageous intervention to disarm the assailant and protect the community from harm.
