An elderly woman, aged 81, has passed away in a hit-and-run incident as authorities are in pursuit of the driver who fled the scene. The tragic event unfolded on Longmoor Lane in Liverpool around 4:15 pm today when a dark-colored vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was a local resident believed to have been on her way to a nearby store. Suffering severe injuries, the woman was promptly taken to Aintree Hospital by emergency services.
Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the woman succumbed to her injuries later on. The vehicle and its driver remain at large, prompting law enforcement to review local surveillance footage in hopes of identifying the car, suspected to display damage from the collision. Police have issued a plea for any additional witnesses to come forward.
To facilitate forensic investigations, the affected roadway has been sealed off, with motorists advised to steer clear of the area. Forensic teams were observed documenting the scene, while police officers were seen monitoring nearby streets.
Superintendent Siobhan Russell urged anyone with information to cooperate, highlighting the victim’s ordinary errand turning tragic, leaving her family in mourning. Support from specialized officers is being extended to the grieving family during this difficult period.
“As we continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, I urge the driver of the vehicle to come forward and provide any pertinent details. Additionally, I appeal to anyone in possession of information that could aid in the identification of the driver to share it with us,” Superintendent Russell stated.
Efforts are also underway to locate the vehicle, potentially bearing post-collision damage, that may have been abandoned or parked after the hit-and-run incident.
