Two additional individuals have been apprehended today in relation to a violent incident involving theft and assault at Heathrow Airport on Sunday.
Law enforcement officers detained a 24-year-old man in Lambeth, London, on suspicion of robbery and assault, and a 23-year-old woman on suspicion of being involved in a robbery conspiracy. Both suspects are currently in police custody.
The arrests stem from an inquiry into an assault that occurred at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3. Police responded to a call at 8:11 am reporting multiple individuals injured by a harmful substance. The London Ambulance Service provided medical attention to 21 affected individuals.
Five of the injured individuals were taken to a hospital but have since been discharged. Prior to the assault, two women were robbed of their luggage after exiting an elevator at the airport parking facility.
During the robbery, the perpetrators sprayed a substance, believed to be pepper spray, towards the women, inadvertently causing minor injuries to bystanders, including a three-year-old girl.
A 31-year-old man was initially arrested near the scene on suspicion of robbery and assault, but has been released pending further investigation.
Commander Peter Stevens of the Metropolitan Police stated, “Our team has been diligently reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses. It is believed that a woman was robbed of her belongings by a group of four men who used pepper spray during the incident. We are working to uncover all the details surrounding this isolated event.”
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed their assistance at the scene and mentioned that firefighters collaborated with other agencies to manage the situation.
Police and crime minister Sarah Jones expressed sympathy for those affected by the Heathrow incident and praised the emergency services for their swift response and the subsequent arrests made in connection with the case.
The investigation is ongoing, and individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact the investigation team or report anonymously through Crimestoppers.
