A professional from the popular show Strictly Come Dancing recently shared insights on his initial thoughts when he was paired with a celebrity partner in the previous season. Carlos Gu, 33, emerged victorious with former footballer Karen Carney, 38, clinching the coveted Glitterball trophy last year.
In a candid discussion on the White Wine Question Time podcast hosted by Kate Thornton, Carlos reflected on his remarkable comeback after being without a partner the season before. He confessed that at the outset of his partnership with Karen, he had reservations due to their apparent differences. Despite this, both Carlos and Karen thrived on the challenge, which he believes was instrumental in their success.
Carlos revealed his willingness to embark on an adventure despite uncertainty, stating, “I have no idea how this is going to work, but I’m willing to take on the challenge.” His sentiments echo his belief in embracing emotions and self-acceptance, emphasizing the importance of freely expressing emotions, particularly for men.
Karen, who has been candid about her health struggles post-Strictly victory, disclosed her battle with Scheuermann’s disease, a spinal condition affecting posture. She also hinted at both her and Carlos possibly being on the autism spectrum, attributing their sensitivity to lighting during a performance to this.
Similarly, Karen expressed initial skepticism about their partnership’s viability, admitting, “When we first met, I had doubts whether this would work out.” However, she acknowledged the transformation in their relationship, underscoring the special bond that developed over time despite their initial differences.
