Tesco is set to offer complimentary drinks and snacks this weekend to customers who visit designated parking spots at select stores. The initiative, called Park & Pause, will debut in ten Tesco locations on April 11, providing visitors with a free Tesco Finest hot beverage and a biscuit.
The supermarket aims to give shoppers a moment of relaxation post-Easter, as research indicates that 42% of Brits seek solace by visiting supermarkets for a brief respite. Tesco representatives will personally deliver the refreshments to car windows at the Park & Pause bays from 8am to 5pm, identifiable by a stopwatch symbol marking the spaces.
According to Tesco, parents with children under four are more inclined to use a Tesco trip as a means to enjoy some personal time, with 68% of them doing so compared to 38% of those without kids.
The Park & Pause initiative aligns with Tesco’s new “Need anything from Tesco?” campaign. In a similar community-oriented gesture, Tesco in Kirkwall, Orkney, distributed surplus bananas for free to local groups and schools after an accidental over-order of 380 boxes. The excess fruit was donated in adherence to the store’s community policy.
Furthermore, Tesco recently increased wages for thousands of employees, investing £200 million in pay raises. Shop workers and online fulfilment center staff saw a 5.1% raise to £13.28 per hour, with London employees receiving an hourly increase to £14.55 within the M25.
