British boxing legend Ricky Hatton has tragically passed away at the age of 46 in his home. Hatton, a beloved figure in British sports, achieved notable success in boxing, notably when he defeated Kosta Tszyu in 2005 to become world champion. He later faced off against boxing greats Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
After a defeat to Pacquiao, Hatton retired but made a brief comeback in 2022, ending in a loss to Vyachslav Senchenko. Despite this, he was set to return to the ring after 13 years for a match against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the discovery of Hatton’s body at his residence, stating that the death was non-suspicious.
Growing up in Manchester, Hatton’s boxing journey began as a means to defend himself from school bullies. He rose to prominence by winning the WBU light-welterweight title in 2001 and achieving significant victories throughout his career. Despite facing personal struggles and controversies, including battles with mental health and addiction, Hatton remained a respected figure in the boxing world.
Tributes poured in from fellow boxers and fans, with Amir Khan expressing gratitude for Hatton’s contributions to the sport and urging anyone facing difficulties to seek help. Chris Eubank Sr and Turki Al-Sheikh also paid respects to the late boxing icon on social media.
