“High-Risk ‘Monster Mansion’ Prisoner Labeled Top Escape Threat”

Date:

A detainee housed at the prison nicknamed ‘Monster Mansion’ has been categorized as an ‘escape risk’ due to his perceived high level of danger. This inmate, whose identity remains undisclosed, is considered the most likely individual to flee from the UK correctional system among the approximately 7,500 prisoners held at Wakefield prison in West Yorkshire.

Wakefield prison, often referred to as ‘Monster Mansion,’ has gained notoriety for accommodating several infamous inmates, including ‘Dr. Death’ Harold Shipman, Ian Huntley, and Roy Whiting. The highest risk prisoner at the facility is labeled as ‘E List,’ with ‘E’ signifying ‘escape,’ according to the assessment by the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB).

The IMB report states that as of March 2025, HMP Wakefield had a capacity of 7,441 inmates, with 634 classified as non-Category A high-risk prisoners and 149 as Category A prisoners. Nine prisoners, including one ‘escape list’ detainee, are identified as the highest risk individuals.

Experts from the IMB specified that ‘E-list’ prisoners at Wakefield prison are considered high escape risks, necessitating increased supervision such as 60-minute interval checks and meticulous monitoring of their movements. The facility, a high-security Category A prison in West Yorkshire, is designated for inmates requiring the utmost level of security.

Despite speculation surrounding the ‘E’ list inmate potentially being former soldier Daniel Khalife, who previously escaped from HMP Wandsworth in London and received a lengthy prison sentence, the Ministry of Justice declined to confirm any specific details. The prison service refrained from commenting on the utilization of the ‘E’ list at Wakefield or the status of individual prisoners, emphasizing the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
