A vehicle fire has caused a significant closure on one of the UK’s busiest motorways. The M6 in Staffordshire is presently shut down between J11 for Shareshill, Cannock, and J10A for the M54, as reported by National Highways. The closure occurred due to a vehicle catching fire in the southbound lane. Staffordshire Fire Service responded to extinguish the blaze while National Highways officers managed the traffic flow. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire was accidental, and no injuries were reported. Recovery efforts for the vehicle were arranged, and the scene was cleared by 10.40 am. Currently, only one lane remains closed for emergency resurfacing, leading to delays of up to 30 minutes. National Highways advises drivers to plan ahead and consider alternative routes to avoid the traffic congestion caused by the M6 closure. CCTV images show extensive queues due to the earlier vehicle fire, with authorities working to clear the affected area. National Highways Traffic Officers are assisting with traffic management, while recovery operations are underway. Drivers are advised to expect delays and stay updated on the situation.
