London Mayor Sadiq Khan has condemned President Donald Trump, accusing him of being racist, sexist, and Islamophobic following Trump’s criticism of him as a “terrible” mayor of London.

Khan, who leads the Labour Party in the capital, remarked that he seemed to be residing “rent-free” in Trump’s mind after being targeted once again by the American leader. Trump reignited their ongoing feud by labeling Khan a “terrible” mayor during his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York.

During his address, Trump stated, “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible terrible mayor, and it’s been so changed, so changed.” He also claimed, “Now they want to go to sharia law.”

In response, Khan stated, “I think people will be wondering what it is about this Muslim mayor who leads a liberal, multicultural, progressive, successful city that means I appear to be living rent-free inside Donald Trump’s head.”

When asked if he believed Trump was Islamophobic, Khan commented, “I think President Trump has shown he is racist, he is sexist, he is misogynistic, and he is Islamophobic.”

Regarding Trump’s characterization of him as a terrible mayor, Khan replied, “Well, listen, I’m just thankful that we have record numbers of Americans coming to London. Since records began, there’s never been a period when more Americans have come to London. There must be a reason for that. You look at a number of different criteria. We’re often the number one city in the globe when it comes to culture, foreign investment, sports, and the ability of people to fulfill their potential. I’m really proud that we are the brightest city in the world and long may that continue.”

Earlier, Cabinet minister Pat McFadden criticized Trump’s assertion that London desires sharia law as a misinterpretation of the city’s values, with Labour MPs showing support for Khan.

McFadden stated on BBC Breakfast, “Well, I’m here at Selhurst Park, in south London, where we don’t have sharia law. We have British law. It’s a great capital city we have, I think it’s a great asset we have to the UK. I’m afraid I differ from the President on that.”

Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized that there is no agenda to implement sharia law in London, praising Khan for his inclusive leadership focused on enhancing various aspects of the city.

Dame Emily Thornberry, chair of the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, expressed her pride in Khan’s leadership, emphasizing his commitment to equality and rejecting the notion of introducing Sharia Law in London.

Members of Parliament Rupa Huq and Rosena Allin-Khan criticized Trump’s comments as baseless and called for action against his Islamophobic remarks, highlighting Khan’s positive impact on London’s diversity and prosperity.
