Despite being let go by Red Bull last year, Horner has been eyeing a return to the F1 scene. However, former rival Toto Wolff of Mercedes hinted that this comeback might be challenging due to past conflicts within the sport. With MotoGP now under the ownership of Liberty Media, Horner’s presence at the event suggests a possible interest in this new environment.
During the weekend, Horner engaged in discussions at the factory Honda garage and interacted with key personnel from Ducati, showcasing his strong ties with Honda, which previously supplied engines to Red Bull during Max Verstappen’s successful F1 campaigns.
Expressing his admiration for MotoGP, Horner mentioned his long-standing interest in the championship and his appreciation for the advancements in motorcycle technology since his last MotoGP attendance in 2005. Amidst speculations about team ownership, Horner emphasized his current exploratory phase into different motorsport disciplines.
While Wolff and Mercedes are considering investing in Alpine, potentially blocking one of Horner’s paths back to F1, Horner’s interest in MotoGP aligns with his desire to diversify his motorsport involvement. If Horner ventures into MotoGP, he would follow in the footsteps of ex-Haas boss Guenther Steiner, who recently led a consortium to acquire the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team.
