Renowned primatologist and UN Messenger of Peace, Jane Goodall, has passed away at the age of 91. She was a passionate advocate for environmental conservation, dedicating nearly 70 years to studying and protecting chimpanzees. Goodall’s mission, as described on her website, focused on fostering a global community driven by hope through the work of the Jane Goodall Institute.

Thomas Schultz-Jagow of the RSPCA praised Goodall for breaking barriers in the male-dominated field of science in the 1960s and 70s, inspiring generations of women to pursue careers in nature-related sectors. The charity honored her with a lifetime achievement award seven years ago.

Following her passing, the Wildlife Conservation Society paid tribute to Goodall’s remarkable life and contributions, emphasizing her unique qualities of science, empathy, and dedication to communication and inspiration. They pledged to continue her legacy by working towards wildlife conservation.

Ingrid Newkirk, founder of PETA, hailed Goodall as a champion for animals worldwide, noting her transition to veganism and advocacy for animal rights. Goodall’s impact extended to cruelty-free initiatives, with organizations like Cruelty Free International recognizing her pivotal role in primate protection efforts.

Various figures and organizations, including former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the International Animal Welfare Protection Coalition, expressed their sorrow at Goodall’s passing and lauded her influential work in promoting compassion towards animals. Chris Packham, a naturalist and television presenter, commended Goodall for her revolutionary spirit and unwavering commitment to protecting wildlife.

Dr. Jane Goodall’s legacy as a trailblazing ethologist and conservationist was commemorated by the United Nations, which praised her tireless efforts for the planet and all its inhabitants. Her accolades, including being made a dame in 2003 and receiving the US Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this year, underscored her significant contributions to the field of conservation.

Born in London in 1934, Goodall’s pioneering research on chimpanzees in Tanzania led to the establishment of the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977, dedicated to species protection and youth environmental initiatives. Her recent appearances in New York City and on a podcast highlighted her ongoing commitment to conservation efforts and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
