Taylor Swift’s music has been taken down from social media videos posted by President Donald Trump’s campaign and the White House. The American superstar’s songs were featured in these videos over the past week. The White House and a spokesperson for Swift did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Although Swift has not recently addressed Trump directly, she did endorse his Democratic opponent, Vice-President Kamala Harris, in 2024. During the 2020 campaign, Swift made it clear on social media that she did not support Trump as president.
Trump has openly criticized Swift in the past. After she endorsed Harris, Trump expressed his disdain for Swift on social media. Several artists, including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have also demanded that the Trump administration refrain from using their music in any campaigns.
The Trump campaign utilized two of Swift’s songs on their TikTok page within the last week. In one instance, a video featured a caption that alluded to Swift’s famous songs. Another video posted back in June showcased Trump interacting with children and engaging in various activities at the White House, set to Swift’s music.
This is not the first time the Trump administration or campaign has used Swift’s music. In April, a video featuring Trump meeting with the crew of Artemis II at the White House incorporated Swift’s song “High Infidelity.” Another TikTok video in November used Swift’s track “The Fate of Ophelia,” displaying patriotic imagery and photos of Trump.
The White House’s use of Swift’s music has sparked significant reactions on social media. A White House spokesperson defended the videos, stating they were created with the knowledge that news outlets would amplify them. Trump’s communication team frequently pairs hit songs with images related to various events, such as immigration policies, military operations, and the arrest of former Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.
