The ex-Syrian leader, Bashar Al-Assad, reportedly survived an assassination attempt while in Russia, where he sought political asylum following his removal from power ten months ago.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Assad was discharged from a Moscow hospital on Monday after allegedly being poisoned. The motive behind the assassination plot, as per a “private source,” was to discredit the Russian government and accuse it of involvement in his potential demise.

Reportedly, only Assad’s brother, Maher Assad, was permitted to visit him during his hospital stay, which was surrounded by heightened security measures. The latest update suggests that Assad’s health condition is now “stable,” with no official statement from the Russian authorities regarding the alleged incident.

The current Syrian leadership has formally requested Assad’s extradition, a move that Russia has consistently refused. President Putin personally granted asylum to Assad and his inner circle after their arrival in Russia, where they have been out of the public eye and presumably under tight surveillance by Russian intelligence services.

While there is no concrete evidence supporting the poisoning claims, an earlier unconfirmed report mentioned Assad expressing health concerns to his security team shortly after his relocation to Russia, citing breathing difficulties and general unease.
