Parts of the United Kingdom are under advisement to remain indoors from 4 pm to 6 pm today due to Storm Amy’s impact. The storm is affecting various regions of the UK and Ireland. Met Eireann, the Irish meteorological service, has issued a red weather warning for Co Donegal and Northern Ireland during that timeframe.
In an interview on RTE’s News at One, Keith Leonard, the national director of Ireland’s emergency management unit, emphasized the importance of seeking shelter in place during the specified period and urged caution on the roads due to the storm’s expected effects, including heavy rainfall and potential tree falls.
Storm Amy, marked as the first named storm of the season, is set to bring high winds and rain to the UK throughout the weekend. Schools in Northern Ireland have closed early, and ferry services from western Scotland have been disrupted in preparation for the storm’s arrival from the Atlantic.
Coastal areas are bracing for heavy rain and winds reaching up to 100mph on Friday. These adverse weather conditions are projected to move southward, with yellow weather warnings covering the entirety of the UK, including southern England, on Saturday.
