Being an avid reader with a penchant for consuming books, I find myself engrossed in multiple novels every week. However, the more I read, the better I become at anticipating the endings of books.

While I don’t mind this tendency and enjoy a romance story filled with familiar tropes occasionally, discovering a book that exceeds all my expectations is truly rewarding. I welcome big plot twists, unexpected antagonists, and unconventional endings with open arms on my bookshelf.

Here are five books I’ve delved into this year that kept me guessing until the final pages, spanning various genres like literary fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and non-fiction, as highlighted in a report by the Express.

In The Rabbit Club, an American adolescent arrives in Oxford and swiftly becomes entangled in the mysterious and controlling world of the Saracens, an exclusive covert society.

As his aspirations intensify, the lines between reality and fantasy blur, setting off a series of events with far-reaching consequences beyond anyone’s imagination.

Reading this gripping dark academia thriller was a mind-bending experience, far darker and intricate than I had anticipated. The conclusion left me speechless, prompting me to immediately revisit the entire book to uncover overlooked details.

If you seek a book to immerse yourself in this autumn, this is the perfect choice.

Purchase The Rabbit Club here.

In King Sorrow, six friends make a deadly pact with a dragon in Joe Hill’s first novel in nearly a decade. Over four decades, we follow Arthur, Gwen, Colin, Donna, Van, and Allie as they must choose a new victim for King Sorrow every Easter or face their own demise.

With just under 900 pages, one might assume parts of this novel could be tedious or foreseeable. However, King Sorrow takes readers on a genre-defying journey, filled with unexpected twists and turns that caught me off guard.

I was fortunate to receive an early copy, but the book will be released later this month.

Pre-order King Sorrow, available October 21, here.

If you enjoy captivating stories featuring morally ambiguous characters, Make Me Famous is a must-read. The narrative follows Cléo, an aspiring singer convinced of her inevitable rise to stardom.

We witness her journey to fame and her current secluded life on an island, where, after multiple albums, she works on her fourth album in peace. Make Me Famous is twisted and enthralling, taking a surprising turn that left me breathless.
