Anthony Joshua narrowly avoided tragedy by changing seats just before a fatal car accident claimed the lives of two of his friends. The incident occurred on Monday, resulting in Joshua sustaining minor injuries and being hospitalized. The driver of the car has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
According to the driver’s lawyer, the accident was deemed an unfortunate event, with the driver claiming that the brakes malfunctioned. It was revealed that Joshua initially sat in the front seat but switched places with another passenger for better visibility. The driver, identified as Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with multiple offenses, including causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license.
Following the tragic event, tributes poured in for the deceased friends who were not only long-time companions of Joshua but also played key roles in his training. Joshua, a Nigerian-British boxer, had been vacationing in Nigeria after his recent victory in Miami. Prominent figures in the boxing world, including Eddie Hearn and various champions, expressed their condolences for the loss.
Joshua has since been discharged from the hospital and has refrained from making public statements about the accident. A joint statement with Ogun state confirmed his release and stated that he was deemed fit to continue his recovery at home. Additionally, Joshua and his mother paid their respects at a funeral home in Lagos for their departed friends before their repatriation.
