A member of a British boyband has been taken into custody by authorities on suspicion of common assault involving a woman and a child. The singer was arrested following a distress call that prompted police intervention. While released on bail, a Domestic Abuse Protection Notice was issued against the individual, signifying police suspicion of abuse. However, no formal charges have been laid as a magistrate declined to approve an order based on the police’s notice.
Law enforcement stated that they responded to a report of assault against a woman by a known individual about two weeks prior. Despite further investigations, insufficient evidence was found to refer the case to the Crown Prosecution Service, resulting in the issuance of a Domestic Abuse Protection Notice without a corresponding order from the magistrate.
Introduced this year, Domestic Abuse Protection Orders require recipients to adhere to specific directives to safeguard victims of domestic violence. Police must request these orders, and courts can impose restrictions on alleged abusers. Although the identity of the boyband member remains undisclosed, reports suggest the individual frequents TV programs and provides interviews to glossy magazines.
In related incidents, earlier this year, a star from the TV show “Strictly Come Dancing” was reportedly taken into custody over rape allegations and non-consensual intimate image abuse accusations. The BBC confirmed an ongoing police investigation regarding these claims. Similarly, in July, an actor was arrested on the set of “EastEnders” after an alleged assault on a distressed woman. The actor, a man in his 50s, was apprehended on suspicion of sexual assault and common assault against another person during the altercation.
