A British tourist who went missing while hiking on the Greek island of Karpathos has been discovered deceased. The 55-year-old man disappeared over a month ago during his solo trip to the island. His body was located on Saturday in the remote region of Epionia in the northern part of Karpathos.
The last sighting of the man was when he was seen taking photos on his phone in the fishing village of Diafani back in June. According to a local witness, the tourist had inquired about directions to Vroukounda via the Lahamitis path.
After the man failed to return to his accommodation, emergency services were alerted. Firefighters, police, coast guard personnel, drones, sniffer dogs, and volunteers extensively searched the area but could not locate him.
The man’s remains will be transported to the nearby island of Rhodes for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of his death. This tragic incident comes shortly after another British tourist passed away at a popular Greek holiday destination.
The 57-year-old individual was found in the waters at Prasonisi, Rhodes, on Sunday, September 7. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Gennadi Health Centre. Authorities from the Lindos Port Authority are investigating the circumstances of his death, and an autopsy has been scheduled to ascertain the exact cause.
