Travellers were instructed to leave Euston Station following a security alert. This afternoon, hundreds of individuals exited the station after being informed of a security incident, later identified as a suspicious item. Images captured at the scene depicted travellers waiting outside while police vehicles were present. Transport for London (TFL) declared the station’s closure citing a security alert. Lewis Goodall, a News Agents presenter, reported a complete evacuation at the station and emphasized the significant police presence.
Goodall shared on social media, “Train staff informed me about the evacuation due to a suspicious package being investigated by the police. Although not uncommon on high-alert days, confirmation from the police is pending.” A bystander on social media mentioned a security incident at Euston Station, noting the relocation of individuals to the bus station, indicating the seriousness of the situation. Another bystander reported that the police had dispersed the crowd and that the fire service had arrived.
A video from outside the station displayed the arrival of at least three police vehicles. TFL later confirmed the station’s reopening shortly after 3:30 pm. Avanti West Coast also confirmed the resumption of all lines at London Euston, cautioning passengers about anticipated cancellations and delays. The police response coincided with the recent tragic stabbings at a Manchester synagogue, which were confirmed as a terrorist attack resulting in two fatalities and three severe injuries, with the assailant shot dead by police.
A spokesperson from the British Transport Police informed The Mirror that officers had responded to reports of a suspicious item at Euston railway station at approximately 2:45 pm. Following precautionary measures, the station was evacuated, and a cordon was established. Subsequently, the item was deemed non-suspicious, and the incident was concluded.
