In a scenario at Harry Styles’ Together, Together tour, fans have begun a new trend of enthusiastically singing the lyrics of Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer’s song “Telephone Busy” during the instrumental break of Styles’ track “Ready, Steady, Go.” This unique trend has gained momentum, with fans getting louder each night as it spreads across the audience.
The trend originated from a fan remix on TikTok by user @millsberry75, who combined the two songs, incorporating 5 Seconds of Summer’s drummer Ashton Irwin talk-singing the intro of “Telephone Busy” over Styles’ “Ready, Steady, Go.” The band acknowledged the remix in August during a DJ set at Salt Shed Chicago’s Lollapalooza festival.
Videos on social media now showcase fans actively participating in this trend during Styles’ tour performances. The chants of 5 Seconds of Summer lyrics have grown increasingly audible, evolving into a roaring chorus in recent shows.
Fans’ enthusiasm stems from the history between One Direction, where Styles rose to fame, and 5 Seconds of Summer, also known as 5SOS. The bands’ intertwined past, from One Direction endorsing 5SOS to touring together, has fostered a strong connection among fans over the years.
Amidst manufactured trends, the organic evolution of this fan-driven phenomenon is a testament to the power of internet culture. Users on TikTok have expressed delight in seeing this spontaneous trend take hold and resonate within the fandom.
5 Seconds of Summer has embraced the excitement surrounding the two songs, with Irwin acknowledging fans’ enthusiasm and the band reposting fan videos of the audience chanting “Telephone Busy” at Styles’ shows. While Styles has yet to acknowledge the trend directly, the escalating volume suggests he may soon take notice.
With numerous upcoming shows on the tour, including multiple performances at Madison Square Garden and Rogers Stadium, the potential for the trend to continue growing and energizing fans remains high. Fans are eagerly anticipating the possibility of experiencing the trend at future shows, amplifying the excitement surrounding this unexpected musical fusion.
