When Hudson Williams arrived in Toronto on Thursday, the atmosphere on King Street was electrifying. Excited fans captured the moment on their phones, with posters and selfies filling the air. Outside the TIFF Lightbox, devoted fans patiently waited for up to 12 hours just to catch a glimpse of the star from “Heated Rivalry” and secure a ticket for his premiere.
Williams was in town for a special event and the debut of his upcoming project, “Yaga,” a mystery series inspired by Slavic folklore with an element of sensuality, set to start streaming in October. Fans of Williams will be delighted to see him take on not one, but two roles in the show.
Filmed earlier this year on Vancouver Island, “Yaga” follows a private investigator summoned to a small coastal town to locate a missing heir from a wealthy fishing family, unveiling a web of dark secrets. The series boasts a talented Canadian cast, including familiar faces like Noah Reid, Carrie-Anne Moss, Clark Backo, Sheila McCarthy, and the renowned Megan Follows from “Anne of Green Gables.”
The world premiere of “Yaga” at TIFF saw a blend of Hudson mania and a deep sense of pride in Canadian talent. Cast members including Reid shared their experiences, highlighting the collaborative and supportive nature of the Canadian creative community. Moss, who plays a pivotal role in the series, expressed her excitement about the project and the opportunity to work with such an esteemed cast.
“Yaga” is a testament to Canadian creativity, with its roots in a play by Kat Sandler that premiered at Toronto’s Tarragon Theatre in 2019. Follows emphasized the importance of supporting and producing unique Canadian content, showcasing diverse narratives and talent. The series is set to premiere on Crave next month, promising an intriguing blend of mystery and Canadian talent.
