A car driven by an intoxicated clubgoer veered onto the sidewalk and collided with four individuals, causing severe injuries. Christopher Parry, who had consumed excessive alcohol at Purple nightclub in Buckie, Scotland, was apprehended by party attendees as he attempted to flee in his vehicle past 2 a.m.
During the Edinburgh High Court proceedings, it was disclosed that Parry, under the influence, ignored warnings and started driving. Another club attendee, Michael Rodgers, recognized Parry’s state and intervened to prevent him from leaving. Lady Drummond sentenced Parry to a four-year jail term and a six-year driving ban.
The court viewed distressing CCTV footage from September 21, 2024, showing Parry’s car colliding with Michael Rodgers’s wife, Ashley, along with two other men, Daniel Cowie and John Taylor. Prosecutor Lindsey Dalziel recounted the events at 1:55 a.m. when Michael Rodgers tried to stop Parry by confronting him, attempting to remove him from the car, and pulling out the keys.
Parry sped off, causing Rodgers to fall, then circled the car park narrowly missing Rodgers. He later drove towards Michael Rodgers, hitting him, Ashley Rodgers, Daniel Cowie, and running over John Taylor’s foot before fleeing the scene.
Parry, from Cornhill, Aberdeenshire, admitted to several charges, including assaulting Michael Rodgers and driving recklessly under the influence, leading to injuries to the victims. His blood alcohol level was nearly four times the legal limit in Scotland. Lady Drummond emphasized the severe impact on the victims and deemed a custodial sentence as the only appropriate recourse.
