Israeli intelligence is reportedly displeased with the recent Trump-Iran ceasefire agreement and is expected to work against it to prolong the conflict, according to sources cited by the Mirror. Despite President Trump’s assertions of a successful outcome, the Mossad agency and Military Intelligence in Israel do not believe they have fully achieved their objectives in the war.
Key targets such as the nuclear enrichment pile in Tehran, a significant portion of missile capabilities, and numerous deadly drones stored in underground tunnel facilities are still intact, raising concerns for Israeli security. The intelligence community in Israel deems the deal premature and perceives Iran as a persistent threat due to its retained military capabilities.
The ceasefire was reached after Trump’s ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face severe repercussions. The sudden shift in approach led to mediation efforts by Pakistan’s military chief and prime minister, resulting in Iran agreeing to halt counter-attacks and ensure safe passage through the waterway in exchange for a cessation of hostilities against it.
Trump hailed the ceasefire as a significant achievement, claiming to have met military objectives and made progress towards long-term peace in the region. The temporary pause in hostilities is expected to facilitate the resumption of oil exports stranded in the Gulf due to the conflict.
While Israel publicly supported the decision to suspend strikes on Iran, the ceasefire does not extend to Lebanon, leading to continued tensions in the region. Despite Trump’s optimistic portrayal of the situation, doubts persist regarding the feasibility of Iran’s demands for a comprehensive peace agreement, which include financial penalties for passage through the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of sanctions.
The peace plan proposed by Iran, which includes demands for the withdrawal of US forces from the Middle East and reparations for damages incurred during the war, is viewed as challenging for the US to accept in its entirety. Escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, coupled with ongoing military actions, indicate that the path to lasting peace remains uncertain.
In response to the ceasefire, Israel has intensified attacks in southern Lebanon and issued evacuation orders, underscoring its skepticism towards the proposed peace terms. The unresolved issues between Iran and Israel, along with the complex demands outlined in the peace plan, suggest a prolonged period of negotiation and potential conflict in the region.
