Part of a significant highway has been shut down due to a collision and vehicle fire, causing extensive delays for commuters.
Sections 3 and 4 on the M25 between junctions 16 and 17 have been closed.
Highways England announced this morning via a post on X/Twitter: “Travelers are facing 90-minute delays and around 9 miles of congestion stretching back to J14 @HeathrowAirport. For those heading to #Heathrow this morning, please allocate extra travel time.”
National Highways: East confirmed that lane 3 is now open.
Despite this, a 90-minute delay persists, with congestion spanning 9 miles back to J14 (Heathrow Airport).
National Highways: East reported that emergency services are present at the accident site.
Lanes 3 and 4 are still closed in a clockwise direction, with expected delays of up to an hour.
National Highways: East (NHE) shared two images showing the vehicle fire on the M25.
In their X/Twitter post, NHE stated: “Three out of four lanes are closed on the #M25 clockwise between J16 #M40 and J17 #Rickmansworth due to a road traffic collision and subsequent vehicle fire. Additionally, Lane 4 out of 4 is closed in the anti-clockwise direction due to smoke from the incident, causing delays of up to 20 minutes for approaching vehicles.”
National Highways mentioned in a statement shared on X/Twitter: “Sections 3 and 4 (out of 4) remain closed on the #M25 clockwise between J16 #M40 and J17 #Rickmansworth with @tvprp currently at the scene. Delays of 90 minutes and an approximate 9 miles of congestion reaching back to J14 @HeathrowAirport are being experienced. Travelers heading to #Heathrow this morning are advised to allow extra time for their journey.”
The M25 chaos is causing drivers to face delays of up to 90 minutes, with lanes 3 and 4 between junctions 16 and 17 remaining closed.
