In the realm of entertainment, viewers couldn’t seem to get their fill of Matthew Perry’s character, Chandler Bing, during the ten-year span of the popular show “Friends.” However, following his passing in 2023, many found it challenging to reconcile the news of his ketamine addiction with the endearing TV persona they had grown fond of.
To shed light on the complexities of the Canadian-born actor’s life, Netflix has announced a forthcoming three-part documentary series titled “The One About Matthew Perry.” This documentary will delve into Perry’s evolution from a rising star in comedy to his iconic portrayal on the beloved NBC sitcom. The streaming service revealed that the series will feature never-before-heard accounts from Perry’s inner circle, including close friends and his sister, Mia Perry Bowick, a grief specialist who has openly discussed her grieving process after his demise.
According to a statement, Mia Perry Bowick expressed, “It has taken time for me to be prepared to share these memories and reveal what it was like to love Matthew amidst the intricacies of his life — to perceive him as a complete individual, not just as Chandler, and not solely as someone grappling with addiction.”
Matthew Perry tragically passed away at the age of 54 due to a ketamine overdose in his home’s hot tub. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to offenses related to providing him with the substance, with Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who supplied Perry with ketamine, appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
Netflix has assured that the documentary series will not only feature recollections from those who cherished Perry but will also provide “unfiltered new insights into his personal struggles, acknowledging the legacy of transparency and advocacy he leaves behind.” The docuseries is scheduled to premiere on October 27.
