Kevin Pietersen has reignited a longstanding dispute with Alastair Cook following Cook’s criticism of England cricketer Jacob Bethell’s choice to stay in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Bethell, who stood out in England’s defeat to Australia in the Ashes series, has not been utilized by Royal Challengers Bengaluru after six matches.
Cook advised the 22-year-old to return home and play for Warwickshire in the County Championship rather than remaining inactive in the IPL. England is set to commence a series against New Zealand shortly after the IPL final, where RCB is likely to be a contender.
In contrast, Pietersen, who was removed from the England team in 2014 under Cook’s captaincy, disagreed with Cook’s stance. Pietersen emphasized Cook’s lack of understanding of the IPL environment and the benefits of being around top cricket players. He encouraged Bethell to stay in India, stating that the experience would enhance his skills significantly.
