A police officer facing a misconduct hearing was found guilty of inappropriate behavior after making lewd comments to a male colleague, groping two fellow officers, and attempting to kiss a male inspector. The incident occurred at a colleague’s farewell event at Caernarfon Rugby Club in North Wales, where PC Pamela Pritchard, 29, was intoxicated.
During the event, Pritchard was seen groping a female officer’s breasts on the dance floor and later tried to kiss a male inspector who recoiled from the advance. Another officer, referred to as PC B, reported that Pritchard unexpectedly groped him below the belt at the bar and later repeated the action in a smoking area. PC B also mentioned that Pritchard sat on his lap, kissed him on the lips, and engaged in other inappropriate behavior throughout the evening.
Despite admitting her actions were inappropriate due to intoxication, Pritchard denied that her behavior amounted to gross misconduct. However, Assistant Chief Constable Chris Allsop stated that her behavior breached the professional standards of the police force, particularly in terms of authority, respect, and courtesy, leading to a finding of gross misconduct.
Following the hearing, Pritchard faces the possibility of dismissal, although her representative, Fiona Clancy, argued for a final written warning instead. Pritchard expressed remorse for her behavior, claiming to have little memory of the events and feeling distressed by the consequences. She acknowledged her actions were out of character and apologized for the incident.
Pritchard, who previously worked in the NHS and as a prison guard, joined North Wales Police in 2023 with aspirations to pursue a career in law enforcement. The incident occurred during her probationary period, leading to her suspension pending the outcome of the hearing.
