Police swiftly responded to an incident at the Tower of London today after receiving reports of damage to a display case housing the crown jewels. According to a protest group, the display case was targeted with a mixture of crumble and custard. Authorities confirmed that four individuals were apprehended in connection with the incident, which occurred before 10 a.m. The Jewel House has been temporarily closed as law enforcement conducts an investigation.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police disclosed that the arrests were made following vandalism to a display case containing the State Crown. The police were informed that four protestors had thrown food at the case, with two individuals leaving the scene thereafter.
The Metropolitan Police announced, “Four protestors have been detained for criminal damage at the Tower of London. Law enforcement was alerted at 09:48 hrs on Saturday, 6 December, to the Tower of London due to reported criminal damage to a display case holding the State Crown.
“The report indicated that four protestors threw suspected food onto the case before two individuals departed. Working in collaboration with City of London Police and security personnel, officers arrested four individuals on suspicion of criminal damage. They have been taken into custody. The Tower remains closed to the public as the police investigation progresses.”
Claiming to be a “non-violent civil-resistance group,” Take Back Power asserted that it had “covered the crown jewels with dessert.” The group shared an image showing two individuals holding a flag with the statement: “Democracy has crumbled – tax the rich.”
