Award-winning rapper Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, has admitted guilt in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a young man in north-east London. The 41-year-old artist failed to halt his BMW after striking 20-year-old Yubin Tamang on October 18, 2025.
During his appearance at the Old Bailey via video link from Pentonville Prison, Clarke-Samuel confessed to causing Mr. Tamang’s death through dangerous driving. He also acknowledged a charge of dangerous driving while operating a BMW M5 on various London roads in Camden, Islington, and Hackney on the same day.
Judge Mark Lucraft KC emphasized that a custodial sentence is inevitable for Clarke-Samuel, with the precise duration yet to be determined. The sentencing is scheduled to take place at the Old Bailey on February 12. Clarke-Samuel, presently in custody, was promptly disqualified from driving, pending the finalization of the duration of the ban. Additionally, two pending charges will be addressed in his upcoming court appearance.
One of the charges pertains to causing death by careless driving while exceeding the alcohol limit. It is alleged that he drove with 119 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on the fateful day. Another accusation involves further dangerous driving incidents with a BMW M5 in Redbridge, east London, including Worcester Crescent where the fatal collision occurred. Yubin Tamang, an only child, had been sent to the UK by his parents to pursue his education.
Ghetts, renowned for his rap and songwriting skills, has collaborated with notable artists like Skepta, Stormzy, and Ed Sheeran. He has graced the Glastonbury stage multiple times, with his most recent appearance in 2024.
