The Severn Bridge on the M48 in South Gloucestershire was shut down in both directions due to a serious incident, causing significant traffic disruptions for drivers. The closure, spanning from J1 (Aust) to J2 (Chepstow), was managed by the South West Ambulance Service and Avon & Somerset Police.
National Highways reported that Traffic Officers and area team crews were present to aid emergency services with traffic control. Drivers were redirected via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge and advised to expect delays or consider alternative routes.

Following the conclusion of the incident, National Highways confirmed that the emergency services have departed, and the Severn Bridge has reopened for traffic in both directions without any delays reported.
Earlier, National Highways advised drivers to utilize the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge as a diversion route due to the police-led incident on the Severn Bridge.
