Swiss authorities announced the apprehension of a 43-year-old individual in connection with a fatal shooting incident at a rave in Aarau over the weekend. The tragic event, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday at a covered horse racing track, resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Italian woman and injuries to five others.
Following an extensive operation, the Swiss police arrested the 43-year-old Swiss man just before 1 a.m. on Monday on suspicion of perpetrating the attack. The authorities are currently conducting investigations into the incident’s details, background, and potential motives, with initial indications suggesting the involvement of a single perpetrator.
Law enforcement officials are exploring three possible motives for the shooting, including the likelihood of it being a mass shooting, an act of terrorism, or driven by an unidentified criminal agenda. Analysis of cartridges recovered at the crime scene revealed the presence of two different bullet calibers, indicating the potential use of a pistol and a larger weapon, likely an assault rifle.
Although the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger suggested similarities between the cartridges found and those used in the Russian AK-74 assault rifle, police have refrained from commenting on this information. The victim, identified as Maria Spinelli by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, was the 22-year-old Italian who tragically lost her life in the incident.
