A 31-year-old man named Robert O’Connor from Drumgowna, Louth Village, faced charges of murdering his father, mother, and brother. The bodies of Mark (54), Louise (56), and Evan (27) were found in their village home on September 29 around 10 am.

Robert appeared in Drogheda District Court before Judge Stephanie Coggans for a special hearing, where he was formally charged with three counts of murder. Garda Sane O’Malley from Drogheda Garda Station testified to arresting and charging Robert for the murders on the same day at 4:43 pm.

During the hearing, Robert’s solicitor, Paul James Moore, requested a psychiatric evaluation for his client, noting Robert’s history of mental health treatment since he was 22. Judge Coggans approved the assessment and granted legal aid for one counsel to be provided.

Given the severity of the charges, Robert did not apply for bail during the District Court hearing, as murder bail matters are handled exclusively by the High Court. He was remanded in custody and scheduled to appear via video link at Drogheda District Court on October 6 at 10:30 am. Throughout the proceedings, Robert remained silent and was dressed in a grey top and black tracksuit bottoms.

In attendance at the court hearing was Robert’s brother Cian, accompanied by the family’s designated garda liaison officer. The case continues to unfold, with updates available on various news platforms.
