Vodafone has introduced a new method for internet connectivity that utilizes a 5G mobile signal instead of traditional copper or fiber cables. The latest Wi-Fi router from the company allows for file downloads and movie streaming over the 5G network, offering a more flexible and convenient option for users.
This innovative approach is particularly beneficial for households without access to full fiber connections or for individuals who frequently move residences, such as renters or students. The device’s easy installation process eliminates the need for a technician, as users can simply plug it in, turn it on, and start browsing the web immediately.
While the new system provides speeds of up to 150Mbps, it falls short of the higher speeds offered by full fiber connections, which can exceed 900Mbps. For activities like watching Netflix, sending emails, and working from home, the 150Mbps speed is sufficient but may not match the capabilities of full fiber networks.
In an effort to assist consumers in making informed decisions about their internet connection, Vodafone has launched an integrated availability checker on their website. By entering their postcode, customers can determine whether full fiber or 5G Broadband will deliver the fastest speeds in their area.
Vodafone’s previous GigaCube device has been replaced by this new 5G router, providing a faster alternative for households facing slow and unreliable broadband services. Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, highlighted the company’s commitment to offering choice and convenience to customers through their broadband services.
Additionally, Three, now part of Vodafone, offers a similar 5G broadband service. Vodafone’s plans start at £21 per month, while Three’s home broadband is currently priced at £11 for the initial nine months.
