The remarkable 70-year reign of the Queen, known for her motto “I have to be seen to be believed,” is celebrated through a grand exhibition at Buckingham Palace. Titled “Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style,” the exhibition features over 300 pieces of the Queen’s fashion collection, ranging from colorful dresses and hats to handbags and a rare pair of trousers. Nearly half of these items are being displayed publicly for the first time.
The exhibition offers a glimpse into the Queen’s fashion evolution, from her days as a young princess to becoming Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. Fashion served as a pivotal tool of communication for her, with practicality being the key consideration in her outfit choices.
Curated by Caroline de Guitaut, the exhibition showcases items meticulously preserved by the Royal Collection of Trust after the Queen’s passing in September 2022. De Guitaut highlighted the Queen’s keen sense of style and practicality in her fashion choices, emphasizing the importance of enabling her to carry out her royal duties.
“Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style” is set to run at the King’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace from April 10 to October 18. The exhibition features a diverse array of clothing and accessories worn by the Queen on various occasions, including state visits, public appearances, and special events. From glamorous evening wear to iconic dresses worn on diplomatic visits, the exhibition offers a comprehensive look at the late Queen’s fashion legacy.
