Israeli forces agreed to halt their bombing operations during the two-week ceasefire period, according to a senior White House official.
Trump initially praised Iran’s plan as a potential resolution to the conflict with Israel but later dismissed it as fraudulent. The focus of the conflict has been on ending Iran’s nuclear program. The ceasefire also includes a suspension of Israeli military actions as confirmed by the White House.
After the ceasefire announcement, Trump expressed optimism for world peace on social media, emphasizing the willingness of Iran and others for a peaceful resolution. Pakistani leaders intervened to delay planned strikes, leading to a temporary suspension of bombings in exchange for Iran’s compliance with reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The global leader labeled the agreement a “double-sided ceasefire” and considered Iran’s proposal as a basis for negotiation. However, the ceasefire does not extend to combat operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, as stated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Pro-government demonstrations in Iran following the ceasefire declaration expressed hostility towards the compromise.
