UK households relying on Freeview for television programming are advised to check their equipment and consider performing a quick retune due to recent channel modifications. Although not a major upheaval, a swift retune will ensure that TVs are fully updated.
Freeview has confirmed that on May 20, 2026, several channel adjustments will be implemented. Viewers are urged to retune their devices to ensure their TV and channel guide are up to date.
Among the changes, two channels have been renamed. Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 is now known as Shop Unlimited, while Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 has been replaced by Great! TV +1. Additionally, there have been alterations to channel numbers, with Great! Movies moving from channel 61 to channel 62 and Great! TV +1 now occupying channel 61.
Freeview stated, “Channels on Freeview are continually evolving, with individual providers deciding to relocate, add, or remove channels. Freeview remains committed to offering audiences a diverse range of content.”
If the updates are not automatically reflected on your TV, manual retuning may be necessary. To retune your TV, follow these steps:
– Press the menu button on your TV or set-top box remote.
– Select options like “set-up,” “installation,” or “update.”
– If prompted for a password, try “1234” or “0000.”
– Choose “first-time installation,” “factory reset,” or similar options.
– Confirm deletion of existing channels if prompted.
– The retuning process should commence automatically.
– Save any channels found during the scan if prompted.
