Performance issues often plague iPhone users with older devices, causing frustration as the devices seem to slow down over time, particularly after Apple’s annual iOS update in September. However, a significant change is on the horizon for 2026.
During the recent WWDC event in California, Apple unveiled iOS 27, which introduces a range of enhancements such as a more intelligent Siri assistant, improved Apple Intelligence features, enhanced photo editing tools, and the ability to customize the Liquid Glass appearance. Notably, Apple is also promising a substantial performance boost.
Apple claims that iOS 27 will enable apps to launch up to 30% faster, enhancing the overall user experience. Additionally, photo loading speeds across devices are expected to increase by up to 70%, while AirDrop transfers could become 80% faster.
What sets this improvement apart is that it is not limited to the latest iPhone models like the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Through a feature known as the CPU scheduler, even older devices such as the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 will experience enhanced speed and fluidity.
The CPU scheduler optimizes performance by allocating maximum processing power to the active app on the screen, prioritizing tasks efficiently. This dynamic adjustment of performance levels ensures users enjoy a smoother and faster device experience.
While the actual impact remains to be seen, Apple is confident that this upgrade will prolong the usability of aging devices, potentially eliminating the need for users to upgrade perfectly functional iPhones.
Apple explained, “Improvements across platforms push key system capabilities forward so everyday tasks feel faster, smoother, and more enjoyable.” While the release date for iOS 27 is yet to be announced, it is expected to be available in September.
