A trip to Lapland is a dream for many children, but the thrill of witnessing the Northern Lights left a group of adults in awe during a journey to northern Sweden. Over two consecutive nights, the lucky travelers were treated to the mesmerizing display of the aurora borealis, making the experience truly unforgettable.

Each day of the trip brought new adventures, from dog sledding and snowshoeing to mastering fire-building techniques, interacting with the indigenous Sámi people and their reindeer, and taking a plunge into the icy Bothnian Sea in survival suits.

Situated in the Arctic region, Lapland encompasses the northern parts of Scandinavia, with Luleå being the largest city and a gateway to a picturesque landscape of tall pine trees and clear blue skies. The best time to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights is from early August to late April, with temperatures dropping as low as -30°C from December to February.

Accommodations included a stay at Brändön Lodge, located on the shores of the Bothnian Sea near Luleå Airport. The lodge offers cozy cabins with stunning views of the Luleå archipelago and the Bay of Bothnia, equipped with snow gear for exploration. Guests can enjoy various amenities such as a restaurant, bar, sauna, and relaxation cabins on the premises.

Another highlight was a night at the eco-lodge Arctic Retreat in Överstbyn, where luxury log cabins nestled by the Råne River provide a tranquil setting. Guests can unwind in outdoor hot tubs, relax by indoor fires, and indulge in delicious meals prepared by personal chefs.

Activities ranged from dining in unique settings, such as a garden shed with a barbecue underway, to cooking traditional dishes over open fires, exploring the local flora and fauna on snowshoe hikes, and engaging with Sámi culture and reindeer herding.

For the adventurous souls, a visit to Arctic Bath on the Luleå River offers a rejuvenating experience with sauna rituals and ice baths. The Polar Explorer Icebreaker cruise allows guests to venture into the Bothnian Sea, offering the daring the opportunity to swim in the icy waters wearing survival suits.

The magical experience culminated with the breathtaking display of the Northern Lights, painting the sky with vibrant hues and leaving the travelers enchanted by the natural wonder of Swedish Lapland.

For those interested in embarking on a similar journey, The Aurora Zone offers a four-day package at Brändön Lodge – The Call of Adventure, providing flights, transfers, accommodations, meals, and a range of activities for an immersive Lapland experience.
