“WestJet Cabin Crew Strike Ends with 18% Wage Increase Deal”

Date:

The union representing WestJet’s cabin crew has disclosed details of the tentative agreement made with the Calgary-based airline this week following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal entails an increase of over 18% in wages over a three-year period, along with a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground work. Additional benefits include extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and other perks.

During a long holiday weekend for many, all WestJet flights in much of Canada were grounded as the deadline approached for a strike by 4,400 flight attendants, who initiated the strike early Sunday. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.

Cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the proposed deal in the upcoming weeks.
