Britons are advised to be prepared with nine essential items as heavy snowfall is expected during the Easter weekend. The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for wind and snow as Storm Dave moves in from the Atlantic.
Strong gusts of up to 90mph are anticipated over the Easter weekend, with two alerts issued by the national agency for northern regions of the UK. A further warning has been issued for heavy snow in Scotland, with the potential for up to 20cm of snow accumulation, and some areas may see over 30cm.
The Met Office has cautioned about possible “injuries and danger to life” from flying debris due to the strong winds, which could also lead to travel disturbances and damage in Scotland, northern England, North Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Forecasters predict gusts ranging from 50-60mph across the warned areas from Saturday to Sunday, with the strongest gusts of 80-90mph expected briefly in exposed Scottish locations.
For individuals under the snow warning in central and northern Scotland, the Met Office advises being cautious as snow and blizzard conditions may disrupt travel. It is recommended to plan ahead, ensure safe routes, and have essential items like warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, warning triangle, high visibility vest, and an in-car phone charger.
Met Office’s deputy chief forecaster, Tom Crabtree, stated that Storm Dave is expected to intensify on Saturday, bringing strong winds and heavy snowfall, particularly in northern Scotland. It is advised to prepare for the impending weather conditions and stay updated on the latest forecasts as warnings may be revised.
